Power Quality Improvement in a Distributed Power Generation Connected to the Grid Using an UPQC
Abstract - It is a challenging task to generate power from the alternate sources of energy since it comes with the declination of quality of the power due to the use of extensive power electronics. In this work it is proposed to generate power from distributed energy sources like Solar, Wind with hydrogen fuel cell storage device and feed the power to the grid with increased quality using a custom power device identified as Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC). The maximized generation and improvement in quality power can be achieved only by using suitably designed power electronic converters with matching controllers. Hence efficient DC-DC conversion and DC-AC conversion are planned with controllers using Sensors to manage the power generation and quality power transmission. The System developed will be subjected to extensive simulation using advanced simulation tools and the results will be correlated with an experimental set-up.
